Serger Techniques 3 - Knits 2 - Saturday, April 13, 9:30 - 2:00

Our Serger Techniques classes will teach you tips and tricks using various feet,  attachments and stitches on your serger. At the end of each session, you will have handouts and fabric swatches with the different techniques/stitches you've created from class to store in a binder for future reference at home. These classes are intended to be skill builders and to give you ideas on how to use your sergers for apparel, home decor projects, quilting, bag making, and more! Note: Previous Serger Techniques Classes not required.

Serger Techniques 3 - Knits 2: 

Supply List

Serger and Cover Stitch Machines or Combo Machine - machine(s) must be in good working order with tools and regular notions: tweezers, scissors, allen screwdriver, accessory screw driver, looper threader, extra needles. 2 each of the following: spool foam caps, spool thread caps, thread net, large foam disk (some models). Bring machine Manuals and Thread Guides and additionally, please bring the following:

Notions:

• Wonder clips
• Straight pins
• Ink pen or fabric marking tool
• Rotary Cutter
• Scissors
• Fabric Guide attachment for your machine
• Elastic 3/4" for knits plus other sizes you may have in your stash
• Elastic 1/16" (1.5mm) round cord (Dritz round beading cord is machine wash & dry).
• Wire - 20-24 gauge used for jewelry or floral arranging
• 3 Ring Binder & 8 - 12 clear page protectors

Combo Machines*:

• Sewing Table
• Cutting Blade Cover
• New Overlock Table attachment for Triumph/Ovation if you have one

Overlock*:

• Standard Serger Foot
• Elastic Foot

Cover Stitch*:

• Cover Chain Foot
• Pintuck foot and Guides A & B
• Quilt Guide
• Fabric Guide attachment & thumb screws

*Bring your foot kit if you have one for your machine. All feet and accessories may not be available for all machines.

Fabric: precut knit & woven cotton (scraps, color not important) as follows:

Woven Cotton:

• 1 strip about 3" wide x WOF - choose a fabric that looks good on both sides such as a batik or solid. You will create a wired edge ribbon to decorate with or tie around a gift.
  
• 1 strip cut 6" x 18" long for pintuck practice

Knits:

• 1/2 yard 2-way stretch (stretches from selvage to selvage) such as interlock or jersey
  
• 1/2 yard 4-way stretch (stretches in all directions) such as Lycra or Spandex

Serger Thread:

• 4 regular polyester serger cones (Madeira or Maxi Lock preferred) in 4 different colors (like the pictures in your thread charts)
• 1 spool of Madeira Decora #12 & 2 matching serger cones for your ribbon (color should match your fabric)
